The EASTEAM Story: Who We Are, Why We Started & What to Expect

What is EASTEAM?

EASTEAM is a New York–based women's fashion label making dresses, skirts and sets with built-in structure — shaping engineered into the garment itself, so nothing goes underneath it. The name is two words joined together: East and team. Our whole team is from the East, and we started this label to bring Asian cultural heritage design into Western wardrobes — not as a print, but as construction, silhouette and craft. Every piece is cut from natural, sustainably sourced fabric and made in small runs. Shop the collection.

Why we started EASTEAM

We started EASTEAM because fashion stopped being honest. Designer clothing became purely commercial — brands stopped selling you a garment and started selling you an idea: inner power, a version of you that only ever lives in the caption. You buy the feeling. Then the box arrives, and it's a thin dress that pulls at the waist and needs shapewear underneath to work at all.

We wanted the opposite of that — and we wanted to build it from where we come from. There's centuries of engineering in Eastern garment-making: how a panel is cut, how structure is built into cloth, how a silhouette is shaped without crushing the person inside it. Most of that never made it into Western ready-to-wear. That gap is the reason this label exists.

What our first six collections taught us

From SS23 through SS26 we designed our way through a lot of ideas — different cuts, constructions, silhouettes — and we listened closely to what our customers said back. One question came up more than any other.

It looks great on the model — but is it going to look great on me?

The question every woman asks

Every woman shopping online is asking this. It's the single biggest reason people don't press buy, and the single biggest reason things get returned. So we stopped designing for the photo and started engineering for the body. That's where built-in structure came from — not a marketing idea, but the answer to the only question our customers were really asking.

What 'built-in structure' actually means

Most shaping dresses on the market work by compression. They squeeze. You get a smooth line for two hours, then you're pulling at your waistband under the table. EASTEAM works by construction instead — real structure built into the garment, following your lines and supporting your natural shape, while still letting you move and breathe. You feel held, not held hostage.

  • A defined waist and a lifted, rounder shape — from the cut, not from compression.
  • No shapewear, no tape, no layering — it's built in, so getting dressed is one step.
  • All-day wear — sit, eat, dance, and still look composed at 11pm.
  • A silhouette that reads like you — structure, not scaffolding.

Snatched without the squeeze. That's the whole difference.

'I wanted to make confidence tangible — something you can touch, put on your body, and see change instantly. That's confidence.'

A team of engineers who decided to make clothes

Not one of us went to fashion school. Our founder studied project management; the rest of the team comes from data science, machine learning, software engineering and marketing. Every person here has a STEM background — nobody has an arts degree, and we started a fashion label anyway.

We think that's exactly why the clothes work the way they do. We approached a dress the way you'd approach a system: find the failure point, engineer around it, test it, ship it, listen, revise. And we built it here, in New York, because this city puts itself together like nowhere else on earth.

Our idea of sustainability

Most brands talk about sustainability and mean the fabric. That matters — every fabric we use is natural, sustainably sourced and kind to your skin over years of wear. But that's the small half of the picture. The real question is how many times you'll wear it.

Fashion now is built for one wear: buy it, post it, buy the next thing. No fabric certification fixes that. So we make pieces you can wear for decades — the kind you hand down. That's also why most of what we make is made to order: we don't produce in large batches, nothing is manufactured to sit in a warehouse and get discounted into a landfill.

One piece, worn a hundred ways

Every EASTEAM design is built to be styled more than one way, so a single piece feels like several. Layer it, restyle it, turn it around — it reads brand new. These are timeless pieces, not trend pieces. One dress: brunch, the office, a wedding, drinks after. Because the engineering sits underneath the design rather than on top of it, the structure stays constant while the design language keeps travelling — more Asian heritage silhouettes, new shapes, new collections.

Who we make it for

You are not one thing. None of us are. You're one person at work, another at midnight, another in front of your parents, your partner, your friends. That isn't a flaw to fix — it's being human, and EASTEAM is made for all of it. We'd rather you came back because you believe in what we're building than out of habit. Follow the idea, not the logo. You don't need to be told you're enough; you need pieces that prove it.

What to expect when you order

Price. Individual pieces start at $95; dresses sit in the $300s. We price mid-to-high tier on purpose — a piece engineered to be worn a hundred times is worth more than three that get worn once.

Made to order. Most styles are produced when you order them. Best sellers usually carry limited ready-to-ship stock.

Fit and sizing. Fit is the product for us, not a finishing step. Measurement detail sits on every product page — and if you're unsure, message us before you order and we'll tell you honestly which way to go.

Talking to a human. Email support@easteamny.com, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm EST. We reply within 24 hours, and a real person on the team writes back.

Frequently asked questions

What does the name EASTEAM mean?

EASTEAM combines two words: East and team. Our whole team is from the East, and the label exists to bring Asian cultural heritage design into Western ready-to-wear.

Is EASTEAM a shapewear brand?

No. EASTEAM makes ready-to-wear dresses, skirts and sets with shaping structure built into the garment. You wear the piece on its own — no shapewear, no bodysuit, nothing underneath.

What makes an EASTEAM dress different from a shapewear dress?

Most shapewear dresses shape by compressing you. EASTEAM shapes by construction — tailoring and built-in structure cut to follow your natural shape — for a defined waist and lifted silhouette you can wear all day without squeezing.

Will it actually look like it does on the model?

That question is the reason the brand exists. Our pieces are engineered so the silhouette holds across different bodies, rather than relying on one model's proportions. If you're unsure about your size, email us first.

Why are EASTEAM pieces made to order?

We produce in small runs to avoid overproduction and waste. Most styles are made when you order them; best sellers carry limited ready-to-ship stock.

What fabric does EASTEAM use?

Natural, sustainably sourced fabrics, chosen to be breathable and skin-friendly over years of wear. Composition is listed on every product page.

Where is EASTEAM based?

EASTEAM is a New York–based label, producing in small runs with partners vetted on craftsmanship and working conditions.

EASTEAM

EASTEAM is a New York occasionwear label built on internal structure — titanium-alloy fishbone boning, integrated hip-and-bum contouring, and corset construction sewn into the garment, so the piece does the shaping instead of a layer underneath it.
